Anne is in a state of upheaval – she has long mourned the loss of her son Lukas, who was born with a genetic disorder and died six years ago. With the encouragement and support of her friend and neighbor Daniel, she has decided to sell her house near Munich and emigrate to La Palma. But it is not only the dissolution of the former family center that brings back many memories – her grown-up daughter Helen has also returned to Germany from the USA. Anne and Helen have had little contact since Lukas’ death; Anne didn’t even know that Helen was now a mother herself. She has named her son Luke, after her late brother. As happy as Anne is to see her again, her relationship with her estranged daughter is strained. Piece by piece, the fragmentary memories of the two women build up a picture of the events before and after Luke’s death that led to the rift between mother and daughter. The past remains unchangeable – but the present is full of opportunities for mother and daughter to meet on a new level.
